Phil Argento
Rochester, NY

  • Phil was outstanding in football, basketball, and baseball at John Marshall High School and received scholarship offers in baseball and football. He signed a professional baseball contract with the St. Louis Cardinals and hit .330 in his first year of pro ball. Family problems forced Phil to give up pro ball and he returned to Rochester.
  • Phil played from 1958-1975 for Kodak Park in the Rochester Fast Pitch League and never missed a game. According to his manager, Tom Castle, Phil was the best he ever saw at the first base position. A left-handed hitter and fielder, Phil was flawless on defense.
  • Phil was a consistent .300 hitter with a career batting average of .334. Also possessing great power, leading Kodak Park in home runs and RBIs.
  • He hit 270 home runs in 18 seasons, an average of 15 per year.
  • Phil was named the Rochester Major Fast Pitch League Most Valuable Player ten times in his career, and was named the MVP 17 times in invitational tournament play.
  • He was named to the league All Star Team 18 times, and helped Kodak Park win 5 United States Industrial Fast Pitch Tournaments.
  • He played in 3 ASA Men's Major National Tournaments and 2 ISC World Tournaments.
  • Despite his success on the field, Phil was one of the most respected and well-liked players the game has seen, and loved to swap stories with opposing players.
  • Today, Phil is still a feared hitter, playing for the over-forty club in the Rochester Major Fast Pitch League.
