Auburn, NY

· Ed was a manager and sponsor in the Auburn area for 18 years. · Over the years his teams amassed a 463-214 won/loss record with a .684 winning percentage. · His teams participated in 15 City of Auburn league championships with a record 11 in a row. They were crowned “City Champs” 7 times. · “Mr. Ed” was one of the “founding fathers” of the New York State Miller Classic League. He served as president of this league from 1978-1981. · He managed teams in 15 New York State ASA tournaments. They placed 2nd – 4 times, 3rd – once and 4th – twice, for a combined record of 58-32. · Mr. Ed managed teams in 4 A.S.A. Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournaments. · His generosity well exceeded the time and the love he gave to the game. “Mr. Ed’s” players were always furnished with lavish uniforms, jackets, etc. · All of the expenses that came with softball; such as sanctioning, entry fees, umpire fees, softballs, etc., were part of the privileges a player enjoyed while playing with a Mr. Ed organized team. · On the social side of softball, Ed donated his usual case of beverage upon completion of the game, allowing the players a time to relax and converse at the end of the night. · Ed’s sponsorships did not end after the final pitch of the season. The annual “family picnic” for the players and their families and the annual golf tournament for the players were both conducted, all at Ed’s expense. · Ed passed away in April of 1991.
