Arthur Chetney
Oswego, NY

  • Art began playing softball in 1961, playing for such teams as Black Label, big Ben Ford, Bosco's & Geers, Mimi's, and Mr. M's; all perennial tournament teams.

  • Art has played first base for all of the top Class "A" Fast Pitch softball Teams in the area.

  • He was an excellent hitter, averaging around .340 for his career. He was Captain for Mr. M's from 1976-1980. During that period, the team won over 230 games.

  • He has played in just about every State and Regional Tournament held in New York.

  • He has played on 25 Tournament Champions, 4 State Champions, 6 Regional Champions, and in 4 National Tournament in his career.

  • Art has played and with success against some of the top pitchers in the East, such as John Dumah and Harold McSweeney who are also members of the Hall of Fame.

  • In 1976, Art drove in the eventual winning run in all four victories in the State Tournament. He was the leading hitter in the 1977 State Tournament, hitting a robust .615.

  • In 1998, Art was inducted into the Oswego City Softball Hall of Fame as a charter member.

  • Art has also umpired from 1978-1988 and officiated at the National Sports Festival held in Colorado.
