Jack "Monk" Curtin

Auburn, NY


  • Jack is considered by many to be the top pitcher from the Auburn area. He pitched from 1940 until 1974.

  • Among Jack's many achievements were:

  • He has amassed over 16,000 strike-outs and won over 1,300 games.

  • Jack pitched over 400 shutouts, and 75 no-hitters, along with 24 perfect games.

  • He pitched in over 50 championship games, many of which were ASA affiliated.

  • In 1947 Jack defeated "Shifty" Gears in an ASA Regional Tournament, in which he also threw a no-hitter against Abba Cadabera of Newark.

  • In 1948 he defeated Eddie Feigner and his original court. This was the first defeat for the King, in the Eastern United States. Jack also hit the winning home run in the game.

  • In the 1949, Jack pitched two straight perfect games in the City of Auburn Recreation League.

  • In 1949, while pitching for L.C. Smith Corona, Jack hit the first batter he faced, and then proceeded to strike out all the remaining hitters.

  • Jack is an original member of the Auburn Hall of Fame.
