![]() Sylvester "Blackie" Dorazio Newburg, N.Y. · In 1947 Blackie playing on his Navy Team, Fasron, batted .365 in the East Coast Naval/Air Force Tournament for his Championship Team. · In the 1950’s, Blackie played on many ASA City Championship Teams in the Newburgh area. · In 1953 he batted .523 and his team won the New York State Tournament hekld in Syracuse. · He was the leading hitter and Most Valuable Player in the Rockland County Tournament in 1957-1958. · In 1957 Blackie, a power hitter led the Newburgh League in both home runs and runs batted in. · In the early 1960’s Blackie played in Poughkeepsie again with many of the top teams. In 1963 Blackie was named the League Most Valuable Player with a batting average of .441. · In 11 years of ASA State Tournament play, Blackie’s batting average was .389. · Blackie was named to the Newburgh All Time Fast Pitch Team as a left fielder. · He was selected to the Newburgh Fast Pitch Hall of Fame as a Charter Member in 1991. · Blackie was a great competitor, who had all the tools. He was outfielder who could throw, hit for average, hit for power and had an arm that nobody would run against.
