Ed Key
Poughkeepsie, NY

  • Ed started his long career in softball at the age of 13, playing for his Father's team, The Keystones, in the Poughkeepsie Fast Pitch Softball League in 1933.

  • He was an outstanding player for many years, leading many teams in battling, with an overall average of .320; playing on such great teams as: Allen's All Stars; Valentine Express; Red Whites; Little Brauhas; Avello's and many others.

  • Ed has been active as a player, coach, organizer of leagues, President of leagues, ASA Umpire, ASA commissioner and now heads the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame.

  • Ed was responsible for starting the IBM inter-department softball league and is Past President of the Dutchess County Industrial Softball League.

  • He is Past President of the Poughkeepsie Major Fast Pitch League, Past ASA District Commissioner of Dutchess/Putnam and Columbia Counties, Past ASA Umpire, Past General manager of the Red Whites Softball Club and Past President of the Little Brauhas Softball Club.

  • Ed has served on the panel to select the Outstanding Sports Performers of Dutchess County for the Elk's Night of Champions.

  • He has honored as the Elk Member of the Year for his work on the Night of Champions in 1967.

  • He was inducted into the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Hall of Fame in 1979 for meritorious service to sports and in 1984 as a player.

  • Ed was also inducted into the Dutchess County Sports Museum in 1984.
