Floyd "Sal" Lashomb
Norfolk, NY

  • Floyd served in the Armed Forces as a medic and was very active in sports, playing both softball and basketball.
  • He was named to the All Army Team in 1969, as a member of the U.S. Army Japan Team, who were softball champions. Sal also played shortstop and was named the Outstanding Hitter in the tournament.
  • Sal pitched 21 years from 1969 through 1989.
  • He pitched in many Class "B' Fast Pitch Tournaments, almost always finishing first or second.
  • Sal pitched in 24 Modified Tournaments from 1975 until 1989, finishing first 12 times and second 7 times.
  • Primarily a pitcher,Sal was also an outstanding hitter and played shortstop when not pitching. Although small in stature, Sal often batted over .400 with occasional power.
  • Sal also helped found the Athletic Achievement Scholarship Committee, which provides scholarships to Norwood-Norfolk's top college bound athletes.
  • An excerpt from one of many letters recommending Sal to the Hall of Fame. It was a Class "B" Tournament and our team was cruising into the bottom of the seventh with a 5-1 lead. There was a young know-it-all shortstop playing and Sal was pitching. With two outs, a routine grounder was hit to short and as the shortstop went down to block it, it bounced over his shoulder and the team went on to lose the game. I remember tears literally streaming down his face, as he sat dejectedly on the bench, not wanting to face his teammates. Then I remember a hand on my shoulder and Sal saying with a smile on his face. "Don't worry 'Stumpy,' there will be a lot more games."
  • Sal passed away in a tragic car accident in 1990.
