Bob McKenna
Pleasant Valley, NY


· Bob started his career in sports playing baseball with some of the top teams in the area. He was a standout at every level of play, signing a pro contract after a short stint with Melbourne in the Florida State League. · After a lengthy span in local baseball leagues, Bob turned to fast pitch softball. He played on many local league championship teams, winning numerous Most Valuable Player awards along the way. · In his prime, Bob was regarded as one of the finest fielding shortstops in the area, possessing a strong and accurate arm, and a smooth fielding style. In addition, Bob was a consistent .300 hitter with power, often batting either third or fourth in the batting order. · In 1963, Bob joined the Red Whites softball team in their inaugural season. He played and managed the team to their first state title in 1965. This was the first of 5 straight championships for the team. · Bob continued with the Poughkeepsie Brewers, playing in the strong Eastern Seaboard league where he again was a consistent .275-.280 hitter. · In 1969 the Brewers won the Eastern Regional Tournament and played in the Nationals in Springfield, Missouri where Bob batted .333. · Bob was honored by the Poughkeepsie Elk’s Lodge #275, Night of Champions. · He was selected to the Dutchess County Softball Hall of Fame in 1979. · At age 58, Bob is still participating in two local slow pitch leagues, playing either shortstop of third base. · In addition to being a good athlete, Bob is a fine individual with an easy going personality and a perpetual smile on his face.
