Harold "Ozzie" McSweeney

· Ozzie’s career covers 5 decades of softball, starting in the early 50’s. Today, at the age of 56, Ozzie is very active conducting pitching clinics in the Junior Olympic Program during the winter and coaching a girl’s softball team in the summer.

· Some of the teams Ozzie has played for are: Poughkeepsie Brahaus, Oriskany Wreckers, Valley Merchants, San Carlos of Rome, Old Spain, South Side Restaurant and many others.

· Teammates of Ozzie’s included: Bill Stewart (All World Player and National Hall of Famer), Vince Caserto, Tom Chiavelli, Joe Molinaro, and Butch Veronesi (all New York State Hall of Famers).

· From 1963-1974 Ozzie pitched for the famed Oriskany Wreckers. During that time he pitched in 331 games, winning 298 and losing only 33 times.

· In 1964, the wreckers were runners-up in the New York State Open Fast Pitch Tournament. They played in the regional tournament but because of a family emergency, Ozzie missed the opportunity to play in the National Tournament.. The team also traveled to Hull, Canada to play in an international tournament finishing in second place.

· Other highlights of his career were: 3 career perfect games, including one in a tournament, 15 career no-hitters including 4 consecutive no-hitters in a one week span, 30 career one hitters, 37 career two hitters and 27 career three hitters.

· Ozzie also threw 33 consecutive shut-out innings and had a record 12 shut-outs in a 20-2 season.

· The highlight of his career came on July 26, 1966 when he fanned 30 batters in a fourteen inning game.

· A fine addition to the New York State Hall of Fame, Ozzie has often stated that, “ I am never to bust to talk about softball”
