Robert "Lippy" Millard
Pleasant Valley, NY

  • Lippy played fast pitch softball for over 20 years, from 1946 thru 1970, with several local championship teams.
  • He served for years in the Navy and played baseball on the ship's team from 1951-1954.
  • A consistent .300 hitter, "Lippy" played for teams in the Industrial League. the Downtown Fast Pitch League and for the Red Whites and Poughkeepsie Brewer teams in the Eastern Seaboard League.
  • In addition to having a fine average, Lippy was also considered one of the best outfielders in the game, with exceptional speed and timing.
  • He played for ten years with the Red Whites & Brewers Teams and was instrumental in helping them to 7 State Championships. In addition, Lippy played in 3 Regional Tournaments and 2 National Tournaments.
  • In 1968, Lippy at the age of 38 had his finest year in softball. He was one of the top hitters in the Atlantic Seaboard League and was named to the All Star Team.
  • In the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament, Lippy batted a Tournament best .579, Playing in the World Tournament in Clearwater, Florida Lippy hit an even .300, including two hits off Tournament MVP Weldon Haney, who allowed only seven hits in the entire tournament.
  • He was twice honored by the Poughkeepsie Elks Club as the Outstanding Softball Player in Dutchess County, in 1961 and 1968.
  • In 1968, Lippy was chosen as the Outstanding Athlete in Dutchess County by the Poughkeepsie Journal Newspaper.
  • He was selected to the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1979 and to the Dutchess County Baseball Hall of Fame in 1987.
