George "Toppy" Moresco
Newburgh, NY

  • Toppy played Fast Pitch Softball from 1931 until 1956.
  • He started as a catcher, but switched to pitching in his early days.
  • Toppy pitched in over 750 games, compiling a record of 723 wins against only 29 losses, while pitching in the best leagues in Middletown, Newburgh, Beacon & Poughkeepsie.
  • In his career, Toppy pitched 21 no-hitters, 35 one-hitters and over 125 two-hitters.
  • He also pitched 9 perfect games while pitching for Pastime A.C. and Nephews of Newburgh.
  • Toppy was also a strong hitter with a lifetime batting average of .347.
  • His teams won many state and Regional tournaments and once traveled to Oklahoma to lay in a National Fast Pitch Tournament with the Eastman Kodak Team.
  • Toppy pitched the Allan's All Stars to the Eastern State Title in 1946, pitching a total of 33 innings and was named the Outstanding Player in the Tournament.
  • Nasty, colorful, and dedicated best describes this top pitcher to come from the Newburgh area. Toppy truly loves the game.
  • Toppy is a member of the Newburgh Hall of Fame and was selected to the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame in 1991.
