HALL OF FAME - 2007 - INDUCTION CEREMONY
----------------------------------------

October 6, 2007 is the date to keep open for the New York State ASA Hall of Fame induction ceremony. It will be held in Binghamton, New York at the Binghamton Regency Hotel. Tickets are available for $25.00 each and can be obtained by contacting a Hall of Fame Committee person - Bill Doxsey, Jose Lopez, Ray Houck or Commissioner Bob Farrell.

This year's inductees are Bill Bosch, Bob Soricelli, Donald "Dudley" Walsh, and Mike Kusmuk. A special reception, courtesy of the Dutchess County Fast Pitch Softball Hall of Fame, will take place a 6:30pm and is open to all banquet attendees.

It has been over two years since our last induction ceremony. Traditionally, New York State ASA honors its? commissioner for their years of service to the organization. At this ceremony we will be recognizing those commissioners that have reached a 5 year increment as a commissioner. Receiving awards will be Jim Partigianoni, Bev Valachovic, Andy Yazwinski, Dick Kilts, Frank Smith, Mike Sabatino, Steve Foland, Dick Axtell, Bob Morgan and Jose Lopez.

ATTENTION ASA MEMBERS! Sports Illustrated Wants YOU!!

Oklahoma City, Okla. Sports Illustrated for Kids is looking for a youth Superstar to grace the cover of its December Issue Sports Illustrated for Kids and they want the Amateur Softball Association to contribute their top athletes. If you are an outstanding youth athletes or know someone who is, now is your opportunity to take part in one of the Sports Industry's top media magazines.

Does a youth athlete in your organization have what it takes to share the cover of Sports Illustrated Kids with a superstar athlete? Don't keep it yourself! Have your athlete go to SIKIDS.com and fill out our Youth Athlete of the Year entry form. In 200 words or less, they should describe their accomplishments both on and off the field.

One winner will be selected to appear on the cover of our December Double Issue alongside the SI Kids 2007 Athlete of the Year.

Kids should nominate themselves at SIKIDS.

ASA OBJECTIVES
---------------------------------
As defined in Article 103 of the ASA Code, the objectives of the ASA shall be:
1. To promote amateur softball for all persons regardless of race, color, creed, religion, sex, national origin or ancestry.
2. To establish uniform softball rules and regulations.
3. To provide it with proper safeguards in accordance with the spirit of true sportsmanship and establish principles for ethical behavior and matters relating to conflict of interest as provided by the ASA Council and Board of Directors.
4. To encourage the union of all eligible teams, organizations or groups into such separate associations with active membership in the ASA as may from time to time be deemed best adapted to advance the cause of amateur softball.
5. To establish and maintain by allied membership, alliances with non-profit associations or organizations devoted wholly or partially to the promotion and development of the game of softball on a state, regional or national level.
6. To promote and conduct annual amateur softball championships.
7. To educate and train in the proper skills of amateur softball play and rules of the game through promoting, organizing, and conducting clinics, seminars and training courses.

Information on the 2007 ASA Annual Council Meeting
----------------------------------------

The Amateur Softball Association, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, will host its 76th National Council Meeting at the Galt House in Louisville, KY November 3-9 2007.
The ASA National Council is comprised of about 300 voting members from all aspects of the sport. The National Council, which consists of ASA Commissioners or Commissioner Emeritus, Regional Player Representatives, Regional Junior Olympic Commissioners, Regional Umpire-In-Chiefs,Allied Members, Elite Athlete Reps, and Past Presidents, are charged with making decisions on legislative changes, rule changes and is solely responsible for awarding National Championships to host cities across the country.
All changes to the ASA Code and/or Playing rules are made through a legislative process. The first step to enact code legislation is for a member of the ASA Council to submit proposed legislation to amend the ASA Code and/or Playing Rules. All code and playing rule amendments are then voted on by the ASA Council during the meeting.
More than 100 tournaments will be awarded on Tuesday, November 6 to cities across the country. More than 40 different cities will make their pitch to the National Council during its general session on Tuesday. More and more cities are realizing the value of hosting an ASA National Championship and are already preparing for the Louisville meeting.
The 2008 Council Meeting, which was bid last year, was awarded to the Sheraton in Oklahoma City, OK for the dates of November 8-14, 2008.
More than 1,000 people are expected to attend the Annual Trade Show of the 76th Annual Meeting of the Amateur Softball Association.
The Trade Show will be held Saturday, November 3 and Sunday, November 4. Exhibit hours are 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Saturday (6-8 p.m. for council members only) and 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Sunday. Booths will be assigned on a first come, first serve basis, with costs for a booth ranging from $500 to $650, depending on which category the exhibitor is classified.
Convention and visitor bureaus are non-commercial ($500), and manufacturers are preferred commercial ($650).
