Donald "Dudley" Walsh
Auburn, NY

  • Dudley was hard throwing right-hander and was protege of Jack "Monk" Curtis, a former inductee of the New York State Hall of Fame.

  • He hurled the first of his 25 no-hitters in the summer of 1956 and also compiled a total of 100 shutout in his career.

  • In addition to being a dominant pitcher, Dudley was also a feared hitter perched in the center of the line-up that strung together 7 straight city titles.

  • Dudley was heavily recruited to compete in many State and Regional Tournaments.

  • In 1960 at Fort Ontario, he tossed a one-hitter. In 1966 in Elkland, PA., Dudley again tossed a one-hitter. In 1965 Regional Tournament play in Elmira, NY, Dudley had a one-hit game; while striking out 12 batters.

  • Dudley's tremendous impact on the growth and interest in the game was evident when massive crowds came to watch him pitch against the famous Eddie Geigner and his "King & His Court" teams, in which Dudley had the rare distinction of compiling a win and a loss against the great Feigner.

  • On July 9, 19970, Dudley broke his ankle during a game in his 14th season of play. After recuperating, he returned in 1972 firing another no-hit game.

  • In 1986 Dudley, along with Monk Curtin, were called upon to be the featured participants in a Home Run Derby to benefit Muscular Dystrophy. Young and old competed to see if they could hit a home run against the best pitching tandem Auburn has ever seen.

  • Dudley is an inductee of the Auburn Softball Hall of Fame.
