Madeline Wells (Giancola)
Syracuse, NY

  • Madeline started her ASA career in 1937, competing until 1975. In her career, she was rated one of the top female pitchers in New York State.

  • Madeline competed for the Eastwood Diner Team, and the Prosperity Team in the Journal American League.

  • Her teams won the New York State Championship in 1936 and 1937.

  • In 1937, her team won the City Championship, Central New York Title and the Eastern Regionals. They traveled to Chicago, Illinois where they finished in second place in the ASA National Tournament.

  • Madeline also pitched for the Prosperity Green Hornets, which won the City Championship, the Central New York Championship and the New York State Title in 1944.

  • She pitched for the East Syracuse Boosters, a men's team in exhibition contests, often coming out a winner.

  • In 1944, Madeline pitched every inning of every game for her team, including 1 no-hitter, 3 one-hitters, and 4 two-hitters.

  • Madeline was named to the All Star Team every year she played.

  • Madeline was also an accomplished bowler, compiling a 188 average, second highest in the city.

  • She is the first female inducted into the New York State Hall of Fame.
