Anthony "Whitney" Zovistoski
Montgomery, NY

  • Whitey played from 1956-1989.
  • He was a member of such teams as the Carpet Mart (later Wall Radio), one of the top teams in Middletown.
  • He was a shortstop, pitcher, and catcher in his career, and a consistent .400 hitter with tremendous power.
  • Whitey had a tryout scheduled with the Mets, but dislocated his shoulder the Sunday before the tryouts.
  • He was twice batting champion in the Middletown League and, in 1973 he captured the Home Run and RBI titles to win the Triple Crown.
  • Whitey also at one time or another was the batting champ in the League in Goshen, Florida, Monroe, and Ellenville.
  • Five years in a row Whitey won the Triple Crown in Ellenville.
  • Three times he was named the Most Valuable Player in Middletown.
  • He was named the Most Valuable Player in the New York State Fast Pitch Tourney held in Utica, batting a hefty .538.
  • Whitey played in numerous Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournaments and competed with the Poughkeepsie Brewers in the National Tournaments in 1979, held in California.
  • He was featured in an article in Sports Illustrated in 1975.
  • Veteran softball players rate Whitey among the bet players in Middletown history.
  • Outside sports interests include golf, where he regularly shoots in the 80-90 range.
