Welcome to the 2012 New York State ASA softball season.
I am extremely proud to serve the teams, leagues, coaches and umpires in another exciting year in ASA Softball. I would be remiss if not mentioning the people behind the scenes.
Team administrators, grounds crews, tournament directors/staff, concession workers, etc. make contributions that lead to a successful season. Many of these individuals have 2 or more roles in the process of making a successful softball experience for all involved. Having viewed many league games and tournament games, I am impressed with the NYSASA player’s ability, knowledge and respect of the game. While much is attained from hard work, the impression a coach leaves with a player is noticeable as well. New York State ASA is proud to have many coaches who know success is not only winning but the many other rewards available through competition in ASA softball.
The Amateur Softball Association (ASA), a volunteer driven, not-for-profit organization based in Oklahoma City, OK, was founded in 1933 and has evolved into the strongest softball organization in the country. The growth and development of the association led the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) to name the ASA the National Governing Body of Softball, pursuant to the Amateur Sports Act of 1978. The ASA has many important responsibilities as the national governing body of softball in the United States, including regulating competition to insure fairness and equal opportunity to the millions of player who annually play the sport.
New York State ASA made a number of changes in staff for the 2012 season. Some re-alignment in staffing, along with replacements and term expirations will help us make your experience with New York State ASA smoother. Our local commissioners and umpire delegates contribute many hours in the success of NYSASA softball. I am thankful to have a top notch staff.
The individual registration program has most of the “bugs” removed since its inception 3 seasons ago for New York State. While many sections of the country had move to individual registration much longer ago, I felt it was better to wait, moving slowly into the new system. Those of you that have worked with the system are able to get your team’s insurance certificate, roster, additionally insured and other items on-line, printing them from the REGISTERASA.COM program.
Please do not hesitate to contact your local commissioner or myself regarding any ASA issues you may have. We are here to serve you, our customers.
